1929 M6 Gearbox output sprocket, side-on |

Description: |
Side view of the gearbox output sprocket, showing how deep it is compared to a lot of other types. It is resting on the kickstarter’s spring, the larger end of which normally locates on the sprocket face. I plan to have the teeth machined off and replaced, but if I’m not convinced of the hardness of the replacement teeth I might try to get it machined into an adapter for a more modern replacement sprocket. It’s difficult because of the spring, the amount of dishing and how tight space by the case. You can see a slight shine on the stub-shaft of the sprocket - I was shocked (blown away!) to discover that this is a wear mark from an oil seal! Unbelievable! Seems odd, though as it’s the only I can find.... |
