In my defence I've never had to recut a thread from scratch, just clean up old ones and remove debris at the bottoms of threaded blind holes, especially the 5/16" BSF in ali cylinder heads for the rocker box bolts (see, I do know the size of some of them ) Most of the repairs in ali have to be by helicoil due to a p/o's ham-fistedness

Hi Ade, I suggest you get a set (1/4 to1/2 in) of BSC taps and dies, they are not too dear, a 1/4 in BSW and 5/16 BSF plug taps to clean up crankcase and other threads in alloy, and get any others as the need arises. Tracy tools will send them within 24 hrs, so there won't be much of a delay in your rebuild. Hope this helps, Andy
