The fifteen thou' setting should read 0.015 rather than 0.0015 and as I recall it was the cardboard from the cigarette packet rather than a cigarette paper that could be used for a rough contacts setting.

cigarette papers are still available and very much thiner than the fag packet cardboard. Using the cardboard surely put the timing massively out

exactly as it should be done I have used a .0015 feeler its the only way to know the exact release moment

Think the confusion over gaps is that .0015 was the cigarette paper used on magnetos to get the points just opening position and .015 was the cigarette packet used to measure the points open when timing with a distributor.

excellent article, I have used this method with good results, instead of the .0015 feeler gauge I used tissue paper to check the release point,saves having to hold the gauge.
