My Matchless G12 CS(R) is missing the chain guard. Does one belong there or were theset types of motorcycles delivered without?

I have no personal knowledge of CSR twins but on page 50 in the 1959 factory Parts List (see link below) it says that the same rear chainguard was fitted to all twins:
