FJRIGJWWE9R1PIC_RATING:COMMENTS Certainly looks like a 1939 Mod 16,which has the black & chrome tank usualy found on the de lux mod 26. This could had been an option when new or later addition.
However, AJS did have a 1940 programe, most of the bikes being impressed ( impressed for armed forces) Without having frame & engine numbers, it has to be considered 1939/40 mod 16. Rob Harknett
