Geoff gets ready for the return run from
Ashfields while Dave chats with a BSA club member
Important Update Those who are
intending to go to the Ardingly event on 29th March should make sure
that they are booked in with the organisers by 2nd March closing
date. There will be a section run to the event and if you want to go on this
then ring Roy for details. There will be a section run on Wednesday 18th
March starting from Crown Corner at 10.30am. The next club night at the Woodman
will be on Thursday 26h March.
On Wednesday 26th
February we had an impromptu section run on what turned out to be the nicest
day of the year so far. Roy led eight of us (Roy, Steve C, Ian S, Dave W, Geoff
G, Lin B, Reg G and myself) away from Crown Corner, but only after Steve’s bike
failed to start and had to be pushed to Roy’s so that he could use one of Roy’s
spare bikes. Roy led all eight of us through Ongar on towards Fyfield.
Unfortunately amongst the traffic in Ongar Dave stalled and by the time he got
going in the traffic he and Geoff had lost sight of those in front. Eventually
having caught up with Reg (as they thought) they followed him, except that it
wasn’t Reg and they had unwittingly joined the run of another club. Still, they
ended up only 8 miles or so from Ashfield’s Country Club at Great Canfield
where our run ended and arrived some 10 minutes ar so later after a phone call
between Roy and Dave. We arrived at Ashfields to find that there was already a
group from the BSA Gold Star club there, so the excellent weather had obviously
encouraged other clubs to make the most of it as well. On the return run I led
the way at first until we encountered a closed road and had to change our
route. Ian then took over and found a route more or less similar to the route I
had intended but with a couple of lanes that were new to me. After the return
Steve, Roy and Dave worked on Steve’s bike at Roy’s and eventually got it
running well with a new battery and carb’ rebuild. An excellent run in fine
weather.
There were 12 of us
at the club night on 12th March and there was much discussion on our
intentions for attandance at this year’s Jampot rally now that the booking is
open with just a few outstanding issues to be resolved for some before
everything is settled. It appears from the British Owner’s Club website that
despite reservations that they will be going ahead with the Jehrico Cottage
meeting again this year. It is apparently going to be on 10th May.
This is the day after our club’s Open Day at Kettering and as usual for us it
will be a case of make your own way there. It is not yet confirmed as to
whether there will be a section run to the Open Day on 9th May yet.
It was good news to
hear that Will Powell is now home after his recent hospital operation and we
hope that he is fully recovered in time to be able to ride his bikes again once
the better weather arrives.
Any
information on forthcoming section activities will be always given on this page
of our section web site as the frequent changes that occur and the lead times
for the “Jampot” section notes does not allow for them to be used for this
purpose. So check this page regularly. It gets updated after any new information becomes available and usually
as soon as possible after each club night .
