Section Clubman of the Year awarded to Roy at
the dinner – notice his halo shining
Important Update : It is proposed to
have an end of the year section run on either Sunday 28th or Monday
29th December from Crown Corner depending on the weather for each
day. Roy will send out an email when we know on which day the weather might
good enough. The next club night at the Woodman will be on Thursday 8th
January.
We are
hoping to have our usual end of year run if the weather is good enough to allow
it. As the weather has been very unpredictable recently we have chosen two
dates (Sunday Dec 28th and Monday 29th) in the hope that
one of them will give decent weather and much closer to the dates the forecast
will hopefully allow us to choose the best day and then Roy will send out his
usual email to say which day we are going. If anyone does not get an email and
would like to go then give Roy a ring on the morning of the 28th to
check which day it is taking place before leaving home.
We held our usual End of Year Dinner, arranged for us once more by Dave
Walling, at The Plough on Saturday 6th December. The numbers
attending were down on previous years, mostly due to medical reasons which I
suppose is only to be expected as we all get older. However the rest of us sat
down to a pleasant meal and social evening. During the evening we had the
presentation of our two annual section awards, the section Clubman of the Year
award for the section member having done the most to help the section during
the year and the Piston Broke award, which none of us really wants to win and
which I have now unfortunately won twice in the past. The Clubman of The Year
award went to Roy Bellett, which surprised him
somewhat as it was not what he was expecting. But it is difficult to arrange an
award for someone who is involved in actually choosing the recipient without a
bit of subterfuge and the award was well deserved. The Piston Broke award went
to Graham Eaton for the trials and tribulations he has had with his Matchless
G15CSR over the year. Unfortunately Graham wasn’t available to receive it
himself as he was ill and couldn’t attend so it was accepted on his behalf by
his partner Claire.
Any information on forthcoming section
activities will be always given on this page of our section web site as the
frequent changes that occur and the lead times for the “Jampot” section notes
does not allow for them to be used for this purpose. So check this page regularly.
It gets updated after any new information becomes available and usually as soon
as possible after each club night .
