The section run at Debden Barns Antiques

Important Update : The section run for Wednesday 29th October is cancelled but ring Roy if you intended coming in case of possible alternative day. The next club night at The Woodman will be on Thursday 13th November.

Dave Walling still needs to hear with their menu choices from everyone who is going to the End of Season Dinner on December 6th please get them to him as soon as possible. He will be collecting the money from those attending the next club night, will all others contact him about payment.

The weather although dull kept mostly dry for our section run on 15th October when Geoff G led Roy, Steve C, Dave W and myself on a run to Debden Barn Antiques where we met up for lunch with Lin B who had ridden there direct. The menu seemed a little bit sophisticated (I’m quite a simple soul) but having order toasted Camenbert with walnuts and cranberries I was a bit surprised to find that it was toasted while still in its packaging although other members tell me that is not unusual. As I said, I am just a simple soul, perhaps cardboard and printing ink adds to the flavour, who knows. It tasted alright although I was careful to try not to eat too much of the cardboard base.

The return run provided a bit more excitement than wanted when after Lin had peeled off to take her own route home and when we were approaching Fyfield three deer dashed across the road in front of us. Geoff missed the first two but the third tried to run between his and Steve’s bikes and caught Steve’s bike. Roy, myself and Dave who were following stopped and went back to where the deer landed to find that it had by then got up and ran over to join the others away in the field. Steve had stopped just down the road and was checking his bike to find that the only real damage seemed to be a broken indicator. Fortunately Steve had a fairing on his bike so his handlebars hadn’t got deflected. A very lucky escape and a timely reminder of just how many deer are now roaming around Essex, something that was definitely still in my mind when I went out on my bike again the following day. Apart from that incident it was a good run out when we probably will not get too many decent days for runs left before Winter sets in.

Any information on forthcoming section activities will be always given on this page of our section web site as the frequent changes that occur and the lead times for the “Jampot” section notes does not allow for them to be used for this purpose. So check this page regularly. It gets updated after any new information becomes available and usually as soon as possible after each club night .
