I am attempting to build a late 50’s 600 AJS twin, I’m, trying to following the specs of a Mod30CS, I have acquired a pair of heads (in excellent condition) that the seller claimed to be 600cc heads. I am not aware of a 600 head with these diagonal fins as used on the 650’s the measurement across the head where it merges with the barrel flange is 76mm and there are 10 fins. Is my head something special or just another 650 type, would appreciate any guidance. regards Derek |

FJRIGJWWE9R1PIC_RATING:COMMENTS These heads are off a 650 , post 1960. They also have diagonaly aligned manifold mountings. The ones you want are of same dimentions you have stated but the manifold mountings are virtical and there is no diagonal fins near the exhaust ports. They are nice and clean though.

FJRIGJWWE9R1PIC_RATING:COMMENTS Derek, they look more like 1960’on 500 heads to me, the extra fins were added in 1960 and the 600 production generally ended in 1958 as the 650’s started in 1959.
I have roughly measured a spare 1960’on 650 head and the outer spigot recess is 77.8mm and the inner 71.5mm.
