G15 Chaincase?

I was told that this was for a G15 or M33. There is a part no inside 024011 with an "L" below it. Checking on Christian's archive I can only find part no 024012 for these models.

Can anyone shed some light on what I have?

seems to come from a single (hole for stud above inspection cap).

Agree with Ludwig, plus all the G15's I've seen have that extra dimple on the alternator bulge. Clearance for a longer crank??

That looks very much like a G12 outer primary chaincase. The hole in the middle only the P11 also had that hole in the middle, as the part that went through chaincase was a stud, with a spacer, and this attached the left hand footrest. As every one else has said there is an extra dimple added to the alternator side of the dome of the primary chaincase. Now the odd part about all this is that the G12,G15,N15, and some of the P11 series all used the same casting numbers for the inner part of the primary chaincases. It was the machining process of the inner that was different. The second picture is obviously correct. The earlier G15 type primary chaincases were also different to the later ones. There was an extra hole added to take a stud on the inner engine plate, and a hole drilled for the inner cover, as AMC sort of did not think that mounting the chaincase on the motor with just three screws and hanging off the mainshaft meant the chaincase would not move. Well they were wrong, hence the later inner chaincase modification.

All the so called part number on the primary chaincase castings are casting numbers and not part numbers. The casting number is there for the part in its pre machined state. The finished article is allocated another part number. The part number 024012 was allocated to the first production run of the Atlas Scramblers from 1963 and also the first N15CS, and G15CS models from 1964. This part number is shown in the Norton spare parts list for 1964 on page 36. It then became 025021 in the Mater Parts Book for1966,67,68 on page 26. In the Norton Villiers parts list for 1967-8, as released through the Norton Matchless Division, it is also shown a 025021 outer chaincase only -polished.

Thanks for your replies, especially JD for pointing out the casting/part no issue. I'll go with Ludwig's suggestion of a '57 on single.
