The Shepton autojumble was packed in spite of the absence of an auction and a very important Welsh rugby match. The customerís motorcycle park was of interest with a BSA A10 with a neat electric start fitted. We wondered how far you would have to ride with a dynamo to charge the battery up again after a cold start. Terry Edmonds found a Saggars hydraulic tls brake conversion and after knocking the price down he kindly allowed Sandy to buy it for his 650. Sandy has a spirited riding style and is more likely to use its full performance. A brace of small Velocettes have been offered to Geoff Warr but he already has one bike in the restoration queue so he declined the offer. The LE is well known but the OHV 200cc Valiant flat twin was much rarer, probably because it cost as much as a 500 Matchless single and was not much faster than the LE. Steveís Sunday run to Toddington steam trains was very successful although they have had a landslip somewhere in the middle of their length of track. I think the Deltic diesel was stranded at the northern end. Geoff Wrightís Thursday run to the Avon and Kennet Canal at Seend was themed on a mode of transport that was eclipsed by the advent of the steam train but which has now become popular again with narrowboats for holiday makers and water hippies. We welcome a new section member, Carr Hayslip from Texas, although he has lost most of his accent as he has lived near Frome for 15 years. We hope to persuade him to lead us on a run round the Frome area with most of us meeting at Keynsham then riding down to him. Carr has an AJS 350 lightweight which goes pretty well as it has been set up by James Holland. Paul Bolton led a band of 5 around the Cotswold Lake District on his Wednesday run; Tony pointed out that his B33 was the only bike that could not be started on the button. Geoff Fletcher was missing as he is away managing his brotherís TZ Yamaha racing team Terry Edmondsís angle ground finger is getting more movement back but it still limits his range of hand signals and he is not yet allowed to ride. Roger Bayliss produced pictures of his completed 1920s side valve vee twin AJS and it looks magnificent. Perhaps it will appear on some dry runs in 2012. Adrian has bought a 1954 swing arm Velo MSS which should allow some new Velo experiences for him such as riding at night and going up hills in top gear. The International Rally boys are feeling a bit cheated of their continental ride as it will be in Kent next year. Maybe they will go via France to keep the mileage up.
