A E Pople speedo repairs
As posted back in June, my speedo was duly posted to Mr Pople for servicing. That's over 2 months ago now and I've still not managed to get a proper response from him! I managed to speak to him on the phone at last and he said he'd received the speedo and was looking at it and would email me back the day after. But still nothing even after another couple of emails sent. Getting a bit annoyed / concerned now!
Does anyone know Mr Pople? I really hope he's better with speedo repairs than he is with correspondence....
It would really be nice to know how fast I'm going for once since I owned the bike, especially with the profusion of speed cameras at the bottom of hills in 30kph areas here!

It took some time (I think it was about 4 months that I had to wait) to get my speedo back from Mr Pople.
Correspondence is not his forte - but speedos are.
To his credit, he made a good job of reconditioning the speedo and did not cash the cheque that I had sent until the speedo was returned.

Hi James, why not temporarily fit such such a cheap bicycle meter (speed, average, trip and total distance, time,...)? Magnet on a front wheel spoke. Sensor taped to brake stay. Meter at handle bar. Done in a few minutes. Wheel size to be entered, about 2.03 m. Also ideal to check your Smith.

Hi Albert - yep, that's exactly what I've done. Not exactly legal though if PC Plod spots it, but it worked very well. Until the sensor cable wore though where it was attached to the front forks that is! I was intermittently reaching over 900kph before it finally gave up though. Easily fixed with the soldering iron a bit of extra protection over the thin sensor wire though.
Thanks for the info regarding the wait for the speedo repair Stuart. Four months seems a long time to have to wait but if he does a good job then I'll be happy in the end. It's just a bit of a concerning wait in the meantime....

i took mine apart due to it not working, got very scared by the hideously complicated mechanism, put it back together and now it works fine.. . .
well it would if the engine wasn't in about 60 peices in the workshop.
