Like Popeye, I can start my Typhoon cranking it with one hand, NOT! But I usually get it going with one kick. The secret is good ignition, good carburetion & all properly adjusted along with techique, of course. It can be hard to advise newbies when not knowing if their bike is set up correctly & if they do the drill right. You cannot just push on the lever & expect it to roar into life. These old bikes are not for the weak-at-heart, although a weak mind may help. Cheers, Don.

Rex and Guys.........many thanks for all the advice....do yopu guys ever sleep
7/8ths lever taken off my BSA 250 1978 Starfire seems to work OK however there is one hell of a noise in the actuating mechanism when clutch lever is actuated (creaking and grinding)and cable adjustment seems to be a tad hit and miss. Gearbox cover is now off with K/S and Gear lever in situ as one of the previous forum answers was that the actuating spring needs replacing
What might you advise
Regards.........Al

I had a similar problem on my 18S. The rod in the mechanism was indented both ends by the balls that push on it. The ends should be flat--you may need a new rod and that will remove a fair bit of excess play.

Just cut it in half and chuck a ballbearing in the middle.

Wilko... a man after my own (mean) heart. Do you save the water from your hot water bottle to fill your billy for your first morning brew?
