Can I use an oil tank from a heavy single, same year as the twin (1956) on my model 30?

I have what I believe to be a 1956, one year only, oil tank for a twin in good condition. If interested, send me a PM. I say one year only as I believe the mounts were different for that year. Cheers, Don.

I suppose one way to start to find out which parts fit between different years and models would be to buy ALL the parts books and cross check between all..
Silly me, I only bought 52 and 56 as those are the years I'm rubbing on.

55 was a one year only as it was the last of the old type kidney tool boxes etc. the mounting had box type fitting insted of lugs as the down tube was replaced with a casting. No tsure about 56, but perhaps it was this change you were thinking of.

Oil tank should be flat sided with decorative transfer. The filler cap will bang your leg when you kickstart the bike. All part of the fun! If you want to see, I can post a photo of mine.Edited by - OLD SHEP on 25 Mar 2011 4:45:07 PM

In short: Yes you can. And how do I know, because my 1956 G80 single came fitted with at twin oil tank, i.e. with the heat shield fitted.
On the 1956 oil tanks the ears attaching to the frame lugs, are horisontal whereas after 1956 they were vertical. Very easy to distinguish when you know.
