Canldestick vs Jampot
I have a 50G80S basket case. I am slowly gathering parts for this and wondered if jampots should fit the Candlestick frame.
i will continue to look for a set of candlesticks but in the meantime I have a set of Jampots, but the ones i have don't fit as they foul the frame at the top attachment point.
Should the Jampots fit?
Are there different types of Jampots?
Thanks for your help

I haven't first hand experience of fitting different shocks, but the original parts list for 1950 list 014420 for the Frame loop and 014307 rear forks with a candle stick, the same numbers are listed for 1951 with a jampot. the loop number changed in 1952 but the jampot remained 016110 from 1951 to 1954. !955 was 021777 but the top and bottom mounts remain the same. Hope this helps

Thanks Trefor,
This is interesting, will try the same checks on the Jampot numbers to see if there are any differences through the years.
The only other possibility is different swingarms.
They certainly don't fit properly at the moment

I think there is a cutaway at the top to clear the fatter jampots on the later frame.

Think i saw something in F.W. Neill about grinding top mount to fit jampot in place of candlestick.

Page 121 AJS singles. Get it from Christians archive if you haven't already. Think Matchless ones are there too.

I measured the top mount of the jampot on my bike. The clearance between the top of the body of the shocker and the frame is 3mm, the centre of the mounting bolt is 43mm from a line vertical from that point on the frame (opposite the top of the jampot).

Trefor,
I don't suppose you could take a photo of this for me?
You could send it to my email.

WillSchub,
I know about Christians Archive but I am not sure what you are referring to. Can you please elaborate for me.
Thanks,
Steve
