55 frame has a different oil tank that bolts on the side of the casting with the hole in it and not the front and rear
55 frame has a casting for the 'hole thingy'53 and 54 have a fabricated 'hole thingy'
The hole is to let the carb breath through(twins)

Aha! So my suspicions that they're all the same in that year may possibly be correct. I'm not called Sherlock Marple for nothing.

Rest easy Janet, you are correct.
I didn't note the differences between 54, 55 and 56 models as I was only trying to show this was a 55 not 54 model in that threads' photos. There were many other changes for 55 as well as those noted by Alan, although the bent rh rear downtube was a new one on me (Thank god I didn't ring the changes, I'd show my ignorance again !!). Broadly '55 models had new wheels, forks, headlamp, frame, petrol and oil tanks, battery box, magneto (on 350 models),carburettor, seat, guards and rear suspension mods. I think the seat too but this is from memory.
Doesn't leave buggar all unchanged.
If you were called 'Sherlock Marple for Nothing' your parents were very cruel. I'll stick with Janet if thats OK

Marty,
But as the lady said, she was not called 'Sherlock Marple for Nothing', and I'm sure her Mum and Dad loved her to bits (so does Glyn) !

A very good year. Unfortunately for me, in '56 they introduced the Short StrokeEdited by - Marty on 20 Feb 2011 10:12:41 PM

1955 was a good year for me. First full year as a civilian after 3yrs in the US Army, 1st new car: 1955 Chevrolet Bel Aire V-8, first new motorcycle: 1955 Triumph Tiger 110. Working at Edwards Air Force Flight Test Center, scuba diving for abalone & surfing in California waters. Carefree youth before the cares & responsabilities of married life. But I would not go back & change anything.

Cheers, Don.
