hi i have striped the clutch on my 1952 AJS 18MS 500
there are 4 friction plates I think there should be 5 on 500 and 4 on a 350 are the baskets the same size ? Text

No, the 350 has less and is narrower. Having said that, i've been running the 350 clutch on my 500 for six years now and not a spot of slipping.Don't know about hauling a sidecar th'o ,but have run it two up plenty of times.

Make sure you do a test run before you seal up the chaincase.Let the clutch settle in before final adjustments with the springs. mine is super light with old secondhand plates with no crunching into gear.You don't have to overdo the spring tension.

Four plates work fine on a 500 single but check that the basket matches the clutch boss. I had a four plate basket and a five plate boss- you need to make up a spacer. I guess the other way around would be fine.
