Which tail light was original with the 1950 Matchless G80S?

Hi Robi,

It would have been a Lucas 467/2. It has a backplate, a glass insert with red paint to the rear, and a chrome cover with two aperatures to the rear for the tail light and one to the bottom for the license plate illumination. The cover is held by a single sleeve nut.

Additional note: These were used from 1949 to 1953-ish before switching to the later plastic type.

Long gone on ebay Peter. I have a replica all chrome one that will need the rear cutouts done. But you can find these from english car suppliers new. It doesn't have lucas on it.

Yes used as car number plate lights, and can quite easily be converted to a rear lamp as suggested. I found a brand new boxed one at a jumble recently for £1. in a box considered junk, mainly car parts, on a bike stall.

i think thats an after market one on ebay.. it should have lucas 467/2 mc stamped on it which that one hasnt...never be fooled by an original box !!!
