Dynamo drive G11

Post by roy butcher »

What are the relative speeds of the drive on the timing side and the rotation of the dynamo in rpm say at 60mph on 1957 Matchless G11.
The gear ratio appears to be about 2.5 to 1 ie 62 teeth to 24. RoyEdited by - roy butcher on 26 Jun 2009 11:10:27 AM

Assuming you are using a 3.50 X 19 inch rear tyre and that your top gear ratio is 5.01 : 1 (standard for 1957) then your dynamo armature will be spinning at 4822 rpm. at 60 mph. Remember that the crank to dynamo drive ratio only depends on the sizes of the crank and dynamo pinions, (30 and 24 teeth respectively).
