AJS R4, 1930, carburettor

Post by tss1974 »

Hi for every one, i´m new in this forum and hope to visit more times, of course.

This days I was bought a AJS model R4 1930.

The bike is in good condition but I think need a new carburettor because start very good but not run good.

The carburettor it has now is AMAL 76BS/1AT.

someone know what carburettor has this bike original?????

I think this carburettor is not original for this bike and is very difficult to find parts for it.

Can you tell me what is the correct carburettor to this bike? and where I can buy it.

Thanks in advanced.

Best regards.Edited by - tss1974 on 08 Mar 2009 11:27:06 AMEdited by - tss1974 on 08 Mar 2009 5:25:14 PM

It will be near impossible to find another carb for this bike, let alone a new one,
It is possible you can get a similar replacement from
http://www.burlen.co.uk/
They make some new Amals, of all kinds.
A nice site you have and some nice bikes,

donde vive Ud.?

Hi Toni,
For pre-war AJS and Matchless, you should join the 'prewar ajsand matchless group' on Yahoo.
Otherwise contact Martin Bratby, who reconditions carburettors, his number is 01543 572583 this is also a fax number.
He recently fully reconditioned the amal for my 1930 AJS R6 for a very reasonable cost.
