figures for 1955 model Jampot [pre"pannier" oil tank]
350cc Rigid 344lbs. Spring 375lbs.Comp Rigid300lbs
500cc Rigid353lbs.Spring386lbs.Comp Rigid 303lbs
That 31lbs difference shows why the 350 Rigid feels quite spritely when run against the Sprung alternative!

I am very lucky as I have a works trials 16MCS and a road going 16M.They are both luvverly but the trials bike knocks spots of the road bike when it comes to handling, which I have always thought is because the road bike is about 50 or 60 lbs.heavier.I know that this does not answer your question but will explain why Gordon Jackson and Sammy Miller went to so much trouble to shave excess pounds off their competition bikes.I have never weighed either bike but I do know that when I dropped the trials bike I had to ask for help to pick it up,perhaps I should sign up for the local gym.Don't worry about the pounds, just enjoy a lovely machine.Paul

I think it is to do with breaking efficiency since we don't use a rolling road.
Chemists do it with test tubes

Dodgy brakes break bikes.....
After the Romans came to Rye or out to Severn strode,
A rolling Wrinkly Rocker rode the rolling English road
On a Matchless (with its dodgy brakes) that rambled round the shire,
And after him a traffic cop; Poor Spriddler's in the mire!
A merry road, a mazy road, "We'll lose him!", Spriddler said,
The night he bent his P & J not far from Beachy Head.
