Is it me?
Had my renewal in from Carole Nash.....full comp.on my G80 (£25 excess)and Triumph 1050ST (£200 excess)they wanted £275 to renew....10yrs NCB, 40yrs+ licence.Tried FJ and Bennetts and got down to £225 but with (much)bigger excesses.Phoned up Carole Nash told them I wanted proof of my NCB....surprise,surprise ,they could do me a deal ..£225! When I refused to sign up again saying I was going to 'phone Bennetts, off comes another tenner! So two 'bikes fully comp. + breakdown assistance for £215...result. But why did I have to jump through all these hoops? Why don't they give you the best quote from the get go? Or am I missing something? Take one of your little pills before you reply,Ken! Sorry y'all ,I've posted in the wrong section, can it be moved to "General"?Edited by - crawsue on 11 Feb 2009 6:01:36 PMEdited by - crawsue on 11 Feb 2009 6:03:55 PM

Carole Nash has sold the company on and the new management are racking up the prices. They have the lions share of the market and probably hope to edge prices up across the board, taking the whole market sector with them.
I recently took one bike off and added another smallish one [in size and value] and was charged thir£y odd quid for the "paperwork" -Last year I was able to add a machine to the list for less!
CN have been OK in the past, but to my mind they have become arrogant and may well have outlived their usefulness. Luckily there are some others companies who have arrived more lately and may still want to compete.
As Crawsue says as an exsisting customer one would think they would try to hang onto you, why should there be this mucking about haggling for prices?

Footman James won't cover bikes in a wooden shed. They'll cover them in a concrete or brick garage even if it's miles away from 'home' apparently.
To get at my bike (in a fully insulated, barred windows and secret bolted solid shed) they'd have to move my campervan and another car out of the drive first, and then stay hidden from the 83 yr old insomniac Rotweiler behind her aspidestra next door.
Not to mention the mains powered anti-cat trip wire baited with a tin of sardines.
No, better not mention that.

I changed from Carol Nash this year being unwilling to accept the suggestion that they could match (not better) the quote from Footman James which was about £70 a year cheaper. However I am not suprised by this as I do the same thing each year on car insurance saving over £100 on my latest renewal. I think the companies sucker you in on a first year quote and then expect to make the money because most of us are too lethargic to change at renewal time. Same goes for household and buildings insurance. Good luck to Carol Nash if she has sold out, should have got a good pension fund out of it. I am sure if she had not started competition in the specialist market then we would all be paying much more for our bike insurance.
