matchless D3 oil release valve

Post by Shaunleahy »

I have been trying to start the bike fot the first time for many years 6 i think ,so yes it started after nearly giving me a hernia !when the smoke started to clear(not much) i noticed a pool of oil forming on investigation it would apear that the end of the oil release valve had done a runner,it is no where to be found and this is where i am stuck as i have no idea what it should look like or its content,i can see that there is a small pipe on the inside of the primary case that fits in to this missing part and oils the chain, any info help please
O yes the main body that screws in to the casing is there this has threads on it and apears to be reccesed for a mail fitting or perhaps ball bearing.

matchless D3 oil release valve

The release valve is a flat diaphragm, apparently similar to the more modern engines. Have a look here,

http://archives.jampot.dk/Book/Spares_l ... decars.pdf may be of some help.

There are pre-war experts about,(bikes not experts) they will probably appear shortly
