My old Mum always said that the children who's Dad was the local 'night cart man' always had the best toys.

...even said that some of the toys looked 'familiar'.

My great grandfather was a night cart man, in Deptford and Woolwich ...died on his horse and cart one night.
A true story, and I suppose there must be a moral in it somewhere.
mind you he got paid both ends of the trip for the stuff.
Our Family motto ..
"always in the sh!t"
One of my schoolteachers once said I'd never be fit to shovel sh!t...
"Garn" I said, " its the family business"

The father of one of my friends was manager of a sewage works. He was renowned for the quality of his tomatoes, which were harvested from the filter beds. They were self-sown too.

When I bought an Ariel Arrow 250 two stroke I was told by Ramond Mays who later became BRM not to use oil in my petrol but to add 1ml of Molly slip per gallon of petrol . although I new the racing pedigree of Raymond I was nervous about doing it . In the end I plucked up the courage to do it and I did 15 thousand miles and had no trouble at all . So some of the addertives are ok to use . Raymond told me that he ran racing two strokes on it .

The tomato story is genuine - he was Mr Lynch, manager of the Tenbury Wells, Worcs. sewage works until the mid seventies. He used to sell his tomatoes (grown from recycled seed) in the local fruit market, not mentioning his day job.

tomatoes are a well known by product of water treatment works too , I once used to have to cross waste ground by such a place in Benfleet, where the scalpings of the top of the filtration plant were dumped, it was notable locally for the tomatoes that grew wild there, nice balmy climate by the sea.
Nobady thought to ask whence came the water there filtered, it being not a few miles from the northern outfall sewer on the Thames...
My mate that lived near would not walk acroos it early mornings without a brick in his hand as the rats were as big as cats.
Not right off topic as I used to ride there on my Matchless..
