If they distort, make new ones from silver steel perhaps? In hardened state it should last forever.

It sounds to me as if the stand is at fault! ` Why not straighten it?...Any worn spots can be filled with a little m/s arc weld and cleaned off.
Fix the cause of the problem, do'nt do 'band-aid' bodges elsewhere..

Why not drill and tap the stops, say 1/4"x26, and fit large washers to stop the collars falling off, this will enable the size of the collars to be varied to taste. Alternatively, fit a tube over and between the stops. Another dodge is to turn the stand around, assuming it is of the type that doesn't have a 'pedal'

You would soon notice Lawrence, the feet are shaped to fit to the ground and to help the bike roll onto the stand (Ha ha). If the stand is on the wrong way round it looks like someone in Sinbad boots walking backwards.

I did say it was a dodge.
