Ajs fuel tank

Hi.. I'm rebuding a Ajs 1960 Dulux Model 31. Bought a petrol tank for it many years ago.. Time had Come time to fit only to find out it doesn't fit.. Problem is I don't know what the proper tank should look like..
Especially from the underside.. Don't want to buy the wrong one again.. Any help will b much appreciated.

This tank was on my 1960 G12DL when I bought it...

I understand the clamp on rear mounting was shortlived owing to split tanks. If you use this type of tank I suggest packing the rear mount with some dense foam and don't clamp it tight.

I have a 1960 Model 31 D/L too. The tank on mine has a metal tongue protruding from the back which bolts the rear of the tank to the top of the frame with a single bolt and thin rubber disks above and below, as per the front mounts.

That is the same style tank on my 1961 G12 CSR and is right for that year.

It was the tank with the metal tongue that was originally fitted to the singles that I believe has the reputation for fracturing.

Ohhhh... That figures, I swapped the tank for a comp tank that has the tongue at the back. ๐Ÿคจ

Now, I want to find out why I thought it was the U clamp type that had a reputation for fractures๐Ÿค”
