Is it possible to refurbish the clutch friction plates, or do you just have to buy new ones?

Several firms will bond new lining onto your plates.
Saftek is just one............

What are the tangs?

It's 1956, do you mean all new plates, friction and the non friction ones?

+1 for that, along with the best clean up that can be done with the by-now-serrated hub and drum!

Thanks for all of your replies, much appreciated.

I have found these at feked.com but they are available in 3 different thicknesses. I've measured the ones that came off and they are 1.73mm. I expect mine are pretty worn given that the clutch is slipping very badly, what thickness would you recommend?

if the steel plate are in good condition you dont need to replace then . check they are flat and free from burrs
friction plates are G-40-12 according to the spares book for 1956 Burman B52 box for members from our spares scheme
