Unstamped AJS 18cs engine.

Post by Thatsamatch18 »

Hello,
I know this question is more than likely an old cherry to you, but How many competition engines left the factory without an engine number stamped on the cases.
I have very recently aquired a collection of parts that will build into a nice trials type bitza special, certainly not one for the purists, but never the less one more collection of parts assembled into a usable motorcycle.
The frame as can be seen is a heavyweight from around 1959.
The forks are more than likely off the same machine.
The front wheel is earlier and in the photo the wrong way in the forks.
Gearbox is AMC with the M stamping.
The engine however has no number and from my experience, has never had a number stamped (although there is the letter M stamped at the front where the mag sits).
On inspection the engine has had little use or work done.
The mag is an N1 with AMC stamped on.
The Carb is an Amal 389/21 with no wear.
You can never believe the stories sellers tell you, but this bike has been in a workshop for decades untouched.
What are your thoughts.
Next question..how do I add an img.
