Valve Spring Removal

Post by PhilipSpicer »

Narrowing down the power loss once in 3rd or 4th gear, I am de-coking the head and piston. Now to get the valves out. My G3LS 59 has coil springs rather than the hairspring type holding in the valves.
Do I need the tool (018276) to get the valves out of the springs? Or can this be done using a G clamp or similar tool? I think the tool may only work with hairsprings?
Piston rings all fine but I want to check the valves are seating correctly and that I do not have a sticky valve stem.

Starting and idling alright but as soon as I put the power on it loses compression.

Photos included. Many thanks. Philip

I would use the G clamp type tool on the coil springs, the 018276 tool would not work on these.
