Solid State Regulator

Has anyone fitted a Wassell 6v negative earth solid state regulator? I have wired up the regulator as per the instructions within the old regulator box, but the sketch seems to show changes within the dynamo itself, is that correct? I don't want to have to remove the dynamo if I can avoid it.

The instructions for the Neg earth version of that one say to reconnect the field coil wire that normally goes to Earth (along with one brush tail) to D.

That is the 'continental' (or Miller) way and provides regulation on the earth side of the dynamo not the 'live' side. (Both are perfectly respectable, but how mad would it be to make 2 versions of basically the same thing and then demand changes at the dynamo for one of them??)

HOWEVER, I have heard that those instructions might actually be wrong.

I haven't personally used the Wassell units because their regulating voltage isn't - or wasn't when I tested several some years ago - reliable compared to some other makes - eg DVR2s and Alan Osborne's AO units. That could have changed and I may therefore be maligning them, but I am staying well clear all the same.

That's what I hoped, thanks for the video link. I will leave it as it is. I actually bought the Wassell one because it was a name I knew. Which just goes to show a known name isn't always best.
