Single seat base material
Please can anyone suggest a suitable material to replace the coconut matting type that is shedding bits all over my rear mudguard. That is the material that goes over the springs and under the top cover. Thanks.

Re: Single seat base material
Felt carpet underlay used to be a good alternative but judging by the carpet we had replaced last year the modern stuff is made from some sort of recycled material with much less integrity than felt. You might find some though.

Goodness me the cost of the 12mm all wool felt is £321 a metre with a minimum charge of 1/2 a metre. No wonder my carpet layer did not use it.

A hair shirt would be more appropriate for all the bodging you've done.

Re: Single seat base material
Hmmm. I'm working on a '49 single with the single seat comprising springs and the thin leather or vinyl top at the moment.
There is no other padding or what looks like room to fit any under the cover.
My thought was to perhaps get a lambswool cover made for it to soften the ride.
I'm not planning to ride in the wet and for the rare occasion I get caught, I will have to suck it up.
Luckily in my neck of the woods, most storms are predictable and the temperatures are mild enough to deal with a wet backside on those rare occasions.
