Can you identify the bike

A friend of mine dug out some old photos of his uncles with various machines (Sunbeam, DOT, AJS). I though I would post the picture of his Uncle Hogg (perfect biker name) on the AJS in the hope that someone could identify it for him and give a bit of background. And the answer to your next question is we have checked with DVLA and non are still in existence according to their records. :(
