front magneto sheild

while i was fitting the the mag shield i noticed 2 holes one for the ht lead the other not a clue, looked at pics of other bikes could not see or is this a past mod the hole is same side as advanced cable but near bottom

I can only imagine 2 wires exiting through the shield. 1. HT cable. 2. Cable for kill switch. The advance/retard cable would not like to be bend through a hole, but again who knows, maybe the extra hole was made by a previous owner. I can add that I have closed all holes in my shield before painting it. After all what is the use of a shield if you fill it with holes?!?!

hi tommot thanks for the reply i have since blanked it off with a rubber grommet from the local car shop as you say it may have been from previous owners, after all it is over 50yrs old.
