Chrome tank protection

I'm just polishing my chrome tank and noticed that it's got quite a few chips especially in the painted ( lining ) areas.

Any suggestions what I could protect it with overall ?

Saw a recommendation to hand glaze which I had never heard of

Hi

What do you want to protect against?

Corrosion - a good wax polish

More chips - clear coat after masking off the bare chrome areas.

Minimising further chips would be the prime objective. What is the reason why the chrome needs to be left without the clear coat ? Is the clear coat something I should entrust to a professional paint shop of could it be done at home

Hi

It would be my personal choice - clear coat directly onto chrome would be a very thin coat prone to poor adhesion, scratches, wear and difficult to restore. Over a top coat as designed it will add deep gloss and protect what lies beneath.

I wouldn't attempt it at home - my skills and facilities aren't up to it.

I am now searching for a paint shop who can do the clear coat on just the paint, this got me thinking though, should the clearcoat feather onto the chrome so it is a smooth transition , however, the adhesion problem on chrome will come into play.

Hi

I would say no - the colour coat doesn't, just mask to the edge of the colour coat.
