Small Hole In Twin Centre Main Bearing Plate

Hi can any one explain the reason for the small hole located in the casting just at the top where the stud for the bearing cap screw into in the centre main bearing plate used in the twin engine? The hole appears to be only in one of the two studs receiving holes.
