Are there any advantages / disadvantages to using HT Spades as opposed to a cap?

Cheers, Chris

Should make a better connection, also prevent cap failure. However you may get complains from people your un suppressed plugs are causing interference with TV etc signals. I believe for that reason, you must use the caps.

Hmm I thought we were not supposed to use suppression caps with magnetos. No idea if any of the rubber type I use have supressors in them.

Most TV and radio signals are digital nowadays so unsuppressed spark plugs should not cause problems. In any case, they should never be used in magneto ignition systems.
Most classic competition engines use a flat spade for the connection and it is less to go wrong. Plug caps do have the advantage of keeping water out and not needing a tool to remove them, but you need a tool to remove the plug anyway.

I to have no idea if I am using a cap with or without a resistor. In fact I thought they all had a resistor. Now be honest, When you have brought a cap, have you ever asked for a cap with or without a built in resistor? One of my workmates had a digital radio in the factory. When the factory next door used their arc welder, all it gave out was an horrible noise.

The soft 'ish rubber caps don't have integral suppressors.

Some hard Bakelite ones have a suppressor and the resistor value (c 5K Ohm) is sometimes stamped on it.
Modern carbon cored HT leads (which WE shouldn't use) have built in suppression.

As mentioned, suppressed caps should not be used with magneto ign.

If necessary you can pull a cap off in hurry.

Thrifty Peter tells me his neighbour is fed up with seeing him on T.V.

(It's a shame you can't suppress Brexit interference on the radio or T.V.).
