Good evening
I have a Lucas dynamo stamped E5H i can't find anything on line about it

Does anybody have any information on a Lucas E5H

Are you sure it's not an E3H?
IIRC the digit is the diameter in inches!

I guess it should be a 3 but it looks like a 5
Mind you my eyes aren't what they was

So according to this website the E3H has one large screw in the case holding the pole shoe
Which my dynamo has so must be a E3H
the down side is it's only 45watt

Yes must be E3H Not sure if this shows more clearly, I think E3H was used on Triumph perhaps others

According to James Smith's most excellent 'Classic Motorcycle Electrics Manual' the E3H designation indicates an Excentricaly mounted armature, 3 inch diameter body, H voltage control, ball bearing at drive end, bronze bush at commutator end. The book also suggest that the dynamo was fitted to 1938 - 48 Ariels and Scotts.

You will see all bikes E3H fits in the archives 1936-57 ( complete ) Lucas book. The generator section starts with an explanation as to what prefix and suffix letters refer to.
