Nothing wrong with Thorspark or Pazon or any of the other electronic ignition systems, so no rant coming from here Chris.
Not 'original' for those who care about that (I don't in the least) - but they can be just as awkward if they go wrong!

Here's the slot and the mag has a tag with sr1 written on it....🧐

Appreciate the advise, I have cleaned the a/r unit and it flicks back, just a tad too tight on the chain when fitted so no flicking back when fitted.
I will loosen the chain tomorrow to get 1/4” whip, hopefully should start after another re timing...
Thanks again.

Could it be a modified shaft?

To update, I have the A/R opening and closing easily now, got timing spot on 1/2” btdc plenty of fuel to plug, with really strong spark, not a pop.
Maybe flooding carb?.

Hi

Are you running an air cleaner? if so is it clean?

Have you checked the carb jets and fuel strainers are clear?

Regards Mick

Wynns carb cleaner. Are the valves seated properly and the pushrods right?

No air cleaner, all jets and filters clean, took top off valves seating and holding fuel ( no leaks past valves) valves are opening can see through plug holes.
Tried plug from running bike, and mag cover and plug lead, really fat blue spark, and wet plugs, checked timing again and it's spot on.starting to open 1/2” btdc.
New fuel, really good kick with throttle at all openings, with and without choke.
Something very silly, even petrol down plug hole not a fire...
Next stop beating bike with branch...😈😈
