Amal 89B/1AK Manneken Pis Impression!

Any thoughts from members on why my G80 89B/1AK seems to want to stick its float overnight? NOS brass float is perfect and I have ‘match-polished' float stem and seat. Situation is worse with more fuel in tank. Doesn't always happen and can occur with or without tickling and appears to go away with vibration from engine running.

Bent float needle causing float to sit slightly to one side?

Thanks Clive good possible cause, will investigate this week, easy enough with the remote float bowl to remove it.

Are you sure the float bowl is the right one and not what is stamped on the carb flange

Hi Alan I'm pretty sure the float chamber and brass body have been united since birth and the bike hadn't been run since probably the 60's so unless someone tinkered prior to then. It all looks correct to the books/manuals. There is some internal corrosion in the Mazak float chamber which has left roughness that might be ‘hanging up' the float?

Is the little spacer on the float pivot shaft missing?

The spacer and pivot shaft are only on monobloc carbs. This is a pre-monobloc.
Dave.

Just read your initial statement properly. Maybe, you just got too good a seat when you polished them together.

Hi Alan. I'd wondered about a sticking needle but, of course, that would result in fuel starvation bearing in mind the fuel is bottom fed into the float chamber. I can only think it is something on the float chamber inner surface, cover, tickler impinging somehow on the float or a bent float needle? Hopefully find out more tonight.
