Made this last night out of a gate hinge from a certain well known DIY store. Far from original but seems to do the job well for £5.00 and the MOT tester seemed to approve. Should be on the road soon.

Did the MOT tester not notice the missing fixing of the rear mudguard. ;)

I'm doing my bit for the planet Roy. It's a recycled Tiger Cub guard bought from Kempton. Got a few other holes in it too but it is firmly fixed!

Neat job. Just a thought: have you got a strip of rubber/foam under the metal strap and battery to isolate it from the vibration?
I originally had my battery held in with a metal strap: too firmly, as I found out. One day, the battery went open-circuit (presumably from the vibration) and I had to get trailered home... :headbang:

Roy probably sold it to you as a G80 /universal mudguard , but does not appear to have enough rust on it so perhaps from someone else

Yes have got a strip of foam on the back of the strap and rubber between the back face of the battery and the carrier which also, of course, keeps it all nice and snug when you tighten up the carrier strap.
