1947 AJS Mudguards

I have a 1947 Model 18 AJS with a ribbed mudguard fitted to the front and a ribbed part section fitted to the back. I will need to source the missing back section. But I have been told that the guards fitted to my bike are incorrect and that the guards should be plain and yet I have seen several examples of restored bikes of the same year with ribbed guards. Can anyone advise me please.
