Never mind the snow, Steve, the Northants pot holes can swallow a bike easily!

Now in " frantic Hanoi!"bikes parked 5 deep on the pavements, difficult as you have to keep walking in the road which is just as frantic! A cheap " step- thru'" is about £1200 but a vespa is twice the price! Our hotel is definitely "5 star" and overstaffed by pretty young ladies!! The buffet breakfast will last you all day and the Vietnamese coffee is out of this world! Going " up country" to Mai Chau for some peace and quiet!

It's stunningly beautiful here in the hills, flat bottomed valley with rice fields, water buffalo and wooden houses on stilts, good to keep your bike under in the wet season! A nice 21 c. today. Saw a young French couple who bought a secondhand 100 cc in Hanoi each for about £300 ride it south to Saigon then sell it back to a dealer and fly home from there. There are cheap " homestays" but just a pallaise( very hard) on the floor along with everybody else! Went in a cave that that the Vietcong used to keep their guns and explosives in hidden from the French then from the Americans.Time for a Saigon beer!

Hi Alan, how long are you there for? I leave on Thursday 15th. Our trip sounds just like the one above, except we are riding Royal Enfields to give the right image-oh and it costs a fraction of what their trip does! :)
And you can't make me jealous of the temperatures you're struggling in, we are now looking at a lot of time in the 30's! (deg C, that is) we'll have to compare notes and pics sometime soon.

Stay safe and have fun.
