Ajs M14csr race bike
Hi, does anyone have details or specifications for the 1964 M14csr thruxton 500 factory race bike, or in fact any technical spec/photographs of any 250cc lightweight racer, Ajs or Matchless.

The only photo I know of is the racer on page 3 of the 1966 AMC brochure.

It clearly has some racing mods (e.g. rearsets, single seat), but frustratingly, no further information is given!

Hi thanks for that info, i have e-mailed Peter Williams Motorcycles, to see if there is any information to be had there, obviously, Peter and Tony Woods were the riders of the 1964 factory prepared M14 CSR at Thruxton, will have to wait and see if anything is forthcomming, regards, Geoff.

Wow, I'd be fascinated to learn anything about the Thruxton bike! My CSR has a number of "racing bits" (single seat/rearsets/clipons/etc) and one day I plan to do race or track days on it.
It'd be great to know a bit more detail about preparing & running a race-spec CSR. These are pretty humble machines and so it'd be interesting to know what they had to do (if anything) to make them withstand the rigours of the race track. I know, for example, they had to do a neat trick with the primary cases screws to stop 'em coming loose! Some here posted a photo of this mod, but I can't find it.
I wonder what oil they used? Mineral or Castrol R? Presumably the latter, but I've not found any evidence for this.

Hi Clanger9, seen a photo of your cafe racer on this site, right up my street! as that style, was what i used to ride back in the 60`s, had an Enfield continental GT, a 500cc T100 all alloy triton, a tuned T110 triton race bike, and finally a 650cc RGS, wish i had them now, more regret was, i turned down a genuine 7r race bike for £400 from a friend at the time, regards, Geoff.

Thanks Geoff! If I pretend I'm 17 again, I can almost convince myself it's a "real" race bike.
I'm seriously considering running the rebuilt engine on Castorene. Blimey, what I'd give for a real 7R...
