Rebuilding the front forks, I have got the top yoke off and separated from the cover tubes and find the original (rather flakey) chromed collars seem to be swaged to the top yoke.
Wanting to fit smart stainless steel items, how to remov3e the originals?
Careful work with a Dremel can release them, but will enough metal be left to secure the replacement ones?
Or can they be held in place with some modern magic stuff from a tube?

I have successfully removed them with careful use of the Dremel.
There is approximately a 1/16 high step left which will locate the new collar, but as I expected, not enought to swage it over as in the original method.
I'm assumiing it does need to be fixed as it is not under pressure from the sleeve between the top and bottom yokes.
So I'm wondering whether a dab of silicon would , or whether something like Araldite would be better.
