Hi ,
I wonder if you can help, i purchased a clutch basket for a model 8 off ebay, i have no idea what one looks like as a clutch and a lot of other things did not come with my wheelie bin find also new to the forum i have not yet learned how to upload photos i will describe my purchase as best i can.

Approximately 6"in diameter.
46 tooth duplex sprocket riveted on.
8 slots for the clutch plate
Basket is about one inch deep with a 1/4" recess.
Internal ring diameter about three and a half inches id
Copper coloured.
I would be most grateful if you could verify that it is or is not for a model 8.

Kind regards,
Martin.

Hi Martin,

It's complicated!
This is probably a good thread to start with: http://www.jampot.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 20#p157878

There is a lot of information there, additional info my clutch sprocket is riveted on with six rivets and on the parts list the 350 basket is the same as the 250 CS,what ever type it is it looks like a matchless item and not a triumph or bsa and with the right internals it might work.

When you open a page to post, scroll down below the text box and look to the left where you will find two tabs. Click on 'upload attachments'. then you should see a 'choose file' button. clicking this will take you to your files on your pc from which you can pick a photo. There is a maximum file size which I can't remember but if you try to attach one that exceed this, a message comes up telling you the maximum size and you'd need to downsize it.

Once you've chosen the file I think the final instructions will be simple to understand.

Measure the depth of the slots. If they are 1 3/16", then I believe you have the correct part for a Model 8.
On the "other" type, the slots are 15/16".

Just nipped out and measured the slots and they are an 1,1/32" deep, does this mean it is the older type if so can i still use it but with less plates.
I presume the central bearing rings are the same.

That'll be the right one for a Model 8, you can get all 9 clutch plates in there just fine.
I've got 9 plates in the short basket, just don't ask how... ;-)

Thats good it is a usable part, but there is a slight problem trying the plates, the basket and the alloy front adjuster plate are the only clutch parts i have , all the bits inbetween i still have to get including the clutch centre which i am told relates to what type gearbox main shaft you have this part is my next quest ,i am still searching for a complete clutch assy for a model 8 but they are very hard to come by.
