Gearbox drain plug?

I am trying to get familiar with maintenance of the gearbox on my 1959 G3, which I am informed is an AMC gearbox. A lot of grease was visible through the cover so I bought self-levelling grease thinking that was a good idea to add. However, being a bit slow witted at the moment, I then found a drain plug and a level plug, so in a moment of clarity realised this must have been oil filled at some time in the past. Perhaps the grease was to stop a leak... I will soon find out!
Anyway, there seem to be two drain plugs. The one I didn't undo is domed. What is it for?

Thank you for the swift reply. I'll see if I can get to grips now with what that implies for me during future work on the machine.....

Excellent! Thank you for that Duncan. Page 47 of the manual has a diagram and explains it nicely. Although without you telling me what it was I'd never have guessed what I was looking at!
