Tappet adjustment

Hi
I have a 1955 G80s.
Is it possible to adjust the tappets with the petrol tank in situ?

Sounds like you have never adjusted tappets. Look in your instruction manual. Page 33. You only need to remove the 3 acorn nuts, to remove the tappet cover. You will need a thin spanner to get on the tappet lock nut, thin like the simple flat steel bicycle spanners were. Normal open ended spanner will be too thick.
