Perhaps you'd like to put this down in 'alternative parts' for future reference.

For reference, no stock of this part 041267 the gearbox main seal is held by the parts service, AMC Classics, or Andrew Engineering, but is carried by Norvil as the Norton lightweights shared the gearbox internals with the AMC lightweights for a period.
Don't you have to be a club member to buy Norton spares from Norvill?

Norvil is an independent Norton spares specialist, nothing to do with NOC.

Hi I ordered one of these oil seals part No.041267 from Norvil and tried to fit it yesterday.
The seal I.D and O.D give a nice tight fit but the shoulder of this seal is deeper causing the output sprocket to tighten up against it resulting in the output shaft jamming and not able to turn. :(

Hi, the seal actually sits about 4 mm into the recess. I experienced this problem and Ozmadman and others put me right!

You just need to drift it further into the casing and then it won't bind on the sprocket.

No the seal defiantly has a deeper shoulder and wouldn't fit my lightweight gearbox. I had it tapped home until it started to drift the bearing out of its seating. It was still sitting flush with the outer lip of the casing.
This is the seal which i ordered and was the correct fitment giving an oil tight seal. ( thanks again to clanger9)

Sorry the link that I posted just seams to take you to the home page. (I am new to this posting malarkey)

Posting Lightweight gearbox removal & overhaul by clanger9 page 2 gives the link to the correct oil seal.

I hope this helps

Hi

I know this thread is ages old but I have a 62 250 light weight to restore, the bike was cheap and has been messed with before but the engine etc. is sweet so I am in 2 minds whether put it back to near factory state or much like yours make a fun trials / off roader out of it.

Have you got any more pictures you could share please? Didi you keep the original LW forks or upgrade them?

Many thanks

Dan
