There is a bike with an identity crisis on Ebay. Matchless badges on the tank. It has an AJS engine and AJS badges on the side panels. It looks a bit daft to me! Bruce.

It also purports to have a 5 speed gearbox - really?. The engine number dates it as 1957, but the add says first registered in 1998.
A lot of money for a mongrel/bitsa even if it is shiny red, I wonder what the mechanicals are like.

Engine number been re stamped frame looks to be from a single and the seller has not had this checked through the club.

It seems a dreadful garish red to me and I'm certainly no rivet counter, and always happy to see a bike that's complete and in use.

Looks a bit like a 10 yr old's Airfix model. Even the rear springs, centre stand and the kickstart lever have been painted red, and the front 'guard stays and brake torque arm stick out like sore thumbs.
And it has a 'Yorkshire AJS and Matchless Club' transfer on the toolbox

Shiny though, and hopefully it'll be ridden and give the new owner a big grin.

Hi

Should have used a spray gun rather than Pat's cat to apply the paint then.

60's headlamp shell - Yorkshire club sticker on the rear mudguard.

Point of pedantry, but how can a 1998 registered bike have an historic registration?

Regards Mick

I think if it came in the wrong shade of black, we would have a moan at it. But its all harmless fun!!!

Re-registered on an age related plate.
However given the comments by Roy this would be questionable

I think I recognise this bike. If I am correct, it was put together by the very man who founded this club way back in the '50's!
