torque settings ?
Hello All, Does anyone know if there are torque settings for the cylinder head and the rocker cover of a (now becoming maddening) 1959 g2.
Many thanks Bernard.

35 ft lbs for 4 head bolts, good judgement and common sense for rocker box bolts.

torque settings ?
I asked the same question recently and it provoked quite a few responses, some of which made me feel a bit stupid for asking! Basically, the general opinion came back as 'let the spanners tell you', as Colin hinted at. I know I tightened the engine shock absorber's nut to about 45ft lb - mainly because it didn't have a locking tab, so I wanted to make sure it was secure. If I remember rightly, the cylinder head bolts on my old Triumph Trident were only torqued to 18 ft lb, so 35 ft lb seems rather a lot.

To add, make sure you tighten the 4 head stud nuts diagonally first then the other(5th) head bolt (the one near the push rod opening) be careful with the 5th Head bolt tighten it but not as much 35 ft lbs( 35 ft lbs is for main the 4 head stud nuts only) This IS the correct torque according to the manual if they are not that tight you will probably get a blown head gasket
