I take it you are referring to Roy's picture. Actually for 55 the front lever should be slightly curved Andy and not straight. It's not as bendy as the 56 behind the leg lever, more like the rear brake.

Yes should be straight, which your parts list will confirm. Not sure about the rear hub. It is full width, but perhaps not QD see sales cat. G80 with the hub drawing. http://archives.jampot.dk/promotional/S ... ologue.pdf

No one spotted that the rear end is now on 1954? frame and not 1955.

Hi Matt,

Roy Bacons book states 1955 changes included "The rear hub also became full width in light alloy with a quick detachable facility for the springers but not the rigid frames", this may be reassuring in terms of width, I have an 18S so not dealt with the rigid back end.

But here's two photo's of one of those terrible things you mentioned before, I know it's an AJS and '53', but ....

Sounds like a good plan, adapting the frame for the QD would be quit a job. Interesting carb on that engine, use one of those on my motocrosser. Bought a Matchless '56' tool box (sin of sins, now AJS, hard to find over here, too much rust and battery acid) from a mate in AUS, Dan, he may have other parts kicking around that might be useful, must of come off a whole bike, his a breaker,
