Take care. Frame seems OK engine ?? 51 CS started at 1007 CS, but is it 1950 engine with 1001 C number. When the engine should actualy be surfixed CS, The frame was surfixed C only.
The engine should be 498 cc. it did not become 497 untill November 1955

There's a nice original 16MC and a later G3C at the H&H auction at Duxford tomorrow. More likely to get a bargain there than at Stafford.

Bike also has a road petrol and (possibly) oil tank. Long stroke comp engines were suffixed with a C, Rob, not CS

No mention of that in my period book Marty, Frames C only yes, the book I have has engines surfixed CS, BUT, books made mistakes, so I could be quoting an error.

Crazy isn't it! And the 16MC went for far more than it's worth IMHO. How wrong can you be!

The comp engine number layout is the same as the road engine Rob, but the C is stamped after and above the engine number on the crankcase. I have seen a few restamped with the C in the yr and model data portion, eg 52/18cs 1234 should be 52/18s 1234C Easy to pick a ringer this way- maybe they have the same book as you ?
